air bubbler in tank?

What's the consensus on air bubbles in a large fowlr tank? I think they look sort of cool, but my fish pro guy said they were messy, but did not explain. How would bubbles be messy? Also, do you all think that bubbles are sort of like having a plastic sunken ship in a tank, detracting from the more natural appearance of nice live rock, or ok? Thanks.

It is messy because when the bubbles burst at the surface of the water, bits on salt water will be on your light, tank, hood, furniture, and etc.

If you have a skimmer (read: everybody should have a skimmer), you have no need for bubbles, they'd be purely asthetic. Skimmers already aerate your water for you.
As for your ship, it's up to you. Most people in the sw hobby prefer to create as natural of an environment as possible for their fish, and wouldn't consider a plastic sunken ship with bubbles as natural. Regardless, it's your tank, not anyone elses. As long as you are taking proper care of your animals, then you should make it look the way you like it.
