Air Bubbler Ok For Decoration In Saltwater Tank???

I'm going to be contested but I don't think air stones are needed in SW tanks. It can cause too much oxygen in the water and cause your pH to become unstable and fluctuate more. But that is just my opinion.

No, it has to do with the gas exchange with the salt water. I haven't seen any effect on FW tanks at all.

Ditto AF2,
I don't know of any SW tanks that have bubble stones or aerators in the tanks at all. I know that for FW, fine, SW...no...I was of the understanding that extra bubbles in a SW tank diminishes the natural "slime" that the fish are coated with...could be wrong though...

I doubt anyone will dispute airforceb2 but the bubbles will also cause more unnessesary salt creep.

I've been in a couple arguments about this. A couple people think they are necessary. I guess it is just what you want.

I'll bet airstones WERE necessary... in 1980...

I was about to ask this same question.
I certainly don't think they are necessary, but are they detrimental? I've been viewing the various photos on this site and I don't think I've seen any that have air stones. Preference? maybe... I just don't want to be shooting myself in the foot right from the start.
I inherited this tank (had for less than a week now) and the more I learn, the more I've come to think that the person who owned this before didn't really study much about keeping a saltwater tank. It has a very attractive air stone, but I'm questioning whether or not it is a good idea.

I had a bubble wall in my 90 gallon for over a year with no negative effects. It won't destabilize PH any more than powerheads will. The bubbles move water to the surface and nothing more.
