Stats: 55 gal tank - crush coral and probiotica like product. Old coral (had a tank 10+ years ago) LR 10#. Current inhabitants gobie, damsel and choc star (have lost a few damsels ??sick vs aggressive fish)
Latest pH 8.2 SpG 1.22 Nitrites 0.25 Nitrates 5 Amm 0-0.25
Question:
I have a modest growth of diatom and an increasing growth of green algae and red. I know I am still cycling but what is healthy vs not desirable? Any suggestions?

To me no algea is desireable. When cycling a tank algea growth is normal. I would not worry about it. You could put some marine plants in there to help clear the water up, and keep the nitrates low. Can I assume that you forgot the 0 and your salinity is really 1.022? 1.22 is WAY high. I think that was just a typo. If you are still cycling you really should not have any fish in your tank. It is not good for the fish. It will elongate the cycling process. I would not worry about the algea. It is normal for algea during cycling.

thanks- yes my salinity is 1.022 OOPS What is the opinion of the board about introducing cleaner invertebrates? Too early?

I find that during cycling my cleaner inverts tend to die easier. That has just been my experience. I would hold off until your nitrites and ammonia are at 0. Then I would add the inverts. I figured that was a typo. Your salinity is just fine.

If I were you I would try 1 hermit or 1 snail , nothing gained nothing lost, they will eat the diatom like crazy, but you might want to wait for the amonia at least....JMO...........have a good one.....
