Well It's taken me awhile but I finally seem to have gotten a handle on my first real algae bloom. My house got flooded in Tropical Storm Isadore and I had to move my tank TWICE!!
The first time wasn't too bad because I only needed to slide it off the old carpet that had gotten wet and then slide it back. But then a few weeks later I had to move it to another room so my new carpet could be installed. Well the stress on my fish was tremendous and I lost a few specimens. A Yellow Tang first
Then a Pearly Jawfish and last but not least a bicolor pseudochromis. I think after talking to some LFS people that the tank probably cycled again. All the while this was happening , hair algae was starting to build up on some rocks. I figured a few 20% water changes over a three week period would help control it. Of course I was wrong and by this time I was getting worried about my soft corals which seemed to handle the stress of the moves better than the fish. I decided to take drastic measures and added some Marine Clean bacteria to the tank. It helped, but
removing detritus and scrubbing the rocks with a nylon brush worked better.I am still fighting it but it looks better than it has since November. Thanks to everyone who posts helpful advice.
