algae die off?

Lately I have had an incredible algae die off...
I only have brown algae in my tank, and it's really not a problem... Just turned the corals brown, and got on the rocks and stuff :)
But, lately for some reason, everything looks very white again. I haven't changed anything except the way I feed the fish.
I learned how to feed them and not over-feed them :) Especially with seaweed...
Now I never have extra food in the tank, where at one time I had a lot of it...
Anyway, my question is why????
Why would after 1 year the brown algae just die off? The lighting didn't change, and I didn't change the filtration at all...
The dead algae made a mess for a few days, floating around whenever the ground was moved, but now it's all gone...
I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about this? Thanks.

Ok, a yr sounds just about right for brown algae die-off...this miserable stuff does not last forever, thank goodness. I'd imagine soon that you will start to see green algae. At that point, you know you're in good shape.
As to the timing, the fact that you resently changed feeding habbits [reduced] is very likely why the brown is going. Brown algae, and any algae, is fed by nutrients in our tanks [nitrates and phosphates]. These nutrients are a direct result of how much [or how little] we feed fish and what our organic load in the aquarium is. With less food for fish, there is less nutrients for algae to eat off---end result, less algae.
Keep an eye on it, but I'd say, for now at least, be glad.

Unless you added any meds to your aquarium resently...did you? If so, this too will cause die-off of algae.

Thanks a million for the response.
I haven't added any meds, and in fact, I only have 3 fish in my 75 f/o tank :)
I currently have a huma trigger, yellow tang, and a domino damsel.
In the next 2 weeks I will be adding a clown.
But, that's it!!! 4 fish in a 75 ;-)
I like to keep the tank as under-populated as possible. The fish look great, are always very healthy, and have never had ich or anything like that :)
Plus, it doesn't look like I don't have enough. I don't know how people put much more into a tank without over-populating it...
but anyway, that's a totally different thread :)
I think the reason I don't see any green algae is because I don't use that much light.
I only keep the room lights on for them during the day, and only put the tank lights on when I'm feeding them. It seems to work fine for them....
I was hoping that you would tell me that the algae die off was from less food :)
thanks again for the response.
