Algae Growth During Cycling

Hey Gang,
My tank is about 3 weeks in the cycling process. Currently, brown algae is all over the live rocks and sand. I have 2 MH at 175 Watts and 2 VHO Blue Actinic. The lights are running about 12 hours a day. Is the brown algae growth normal for a new tank? Or is my light is too long or too much? Thanks

Brown algae is normal,and your lighting sounds great.I would definatly cut down on how long it is on though.Say 8to9 hours a day.Or maybe less.

I would love to cut down the on the time, but my clinic open from 9 am to 6:30 pm. I am using a timer from 9 am to 9 pm. The last few hours at night is for people who walk by my clinic......
