Algae in water hose for sump return

I have a fair amount of algae (black like crud) in my clear water return line from my wet dry (sump). Would this cause any of my readings (like ammonia) to read wacky? My ammonia has been running at .25 lately and I have done water changes to bring it down but it seems to only be temporary. I have cut back on my feedings to once per day too. Any suggestions?

THe algea poses no problem, in terms of readings. It is usually cyanobacteria that grows in those pipes (diatoms too). As for flow though, it could cause a problem. You should clean or replace the hose once every six months to a year. Also raping the outside with elecrical tape or duct tape lowers the amount of growth in there.
What is in your tank that requires so much food??

I have a yellow tang and blue pacific tang. I also have two blue damsels and a domino damsel. This is in a 46 gallon bow front tank. Is feeding once per day too much or too little? The LFS said twice daily but everything I read on here says once per day. I have 40 lbs LR and 20 lbs LS. I have a skimmer with a wet dry minus the bio balls essentially acting as a sump. 3 soft corals which are doing fine.
