It is fairly normal for algae to grow on seahorses. As long as it doesn't irritate or harm them, I wouldn't worry about it. If it irritates you, though, you can gently blow at the algae with a baster or gently remove it by hand

It is not recommened that you mix species, though some have and some do. I'd just stick with the Erectus, or order whatever other species of seahorse you like from a reputable captive-breeder

Not too sure on how you would know if you didn't have enough flow. It depends on why you WANT flow - what the purpose of it is to YOU. Is it for a seahorse tank, a reef tank...?
Hope some of these answers helped

thanx for the replies, i think ill just leave the algae on the seahorse cause i dont want to stress him out to much, ya i added a powerhead in my seahorse tnak just incase because there was like think brown stuff on the sand ( i pointed the power head up so there wouldnt be to much but just right
, ya and with the species i have a reidi now so i think il just stick to reidis and hope i find another

Don't be afraid of flow in your seahorse tank. They really do love to play in flow, and, provided they're captive bred, they're really very hardy. My two h. Fuscus (from ORA) have a blast playing in the flow of the tank!

Hey, I've been away for a while (school's a bear!) but I thought I'd add in here. Like Kanicky sez, you can keep both species together, as long as they're both captive-bred, but it's not recommended. I have two reidis and an erectus in my tank, but I'm the exception, not the rule. Many others have tried and failed, and I would chalk up my success to luck, not some mysterious skill. I love my yellow reidis, but if you're thinking of breeding them, go for southern erectus.

Hi Rick - nice to see you're alive and well!
I, too, have mixed species in my horse tank but like Rick, I think it's more luck than anything else. I have a male S. Erectus, a female red Reidi, and a male yellow Reidi. They are all captive bred and all from ORA, Everyone seems healthy and happy, but in this hobby you learn quickly that that can change within a day.
