My 90 gallon tank has been set up for a year and a half. It started out as a FOWLR. I had my initial outbreak of the ugly brown algae all over the sand, glass and live rock but after about 4 months the ugly algae disappeared and the colorful purple coralline algae took over. I recently had someone give me some corals (Candy Canes, Frog Spawns and an unknown Acropora). I also added a bubble tip anemone. I started to leave my T5's on a lot longer so to keep the corals happy. Unfortunately due to my work schedule I left the lights on as long as 16 hours some days. I now have a whole new outbreak of the ugly brown algae again. I have since switched to an LCD light with a timer where I have the white light on for 10 hours and just the blue light on for 2.5 hours. The brown algae still looks the same. The corals look good and the anemone is hiding which I know isn't good.
Should I scale back on my lighting time? Do I wait out the algae outbreak or do I up my clean up crew? I currently have 5 snails.
Any advice would be appreciated.
