First off welcome to the boards.
Dont know much about tank or systems but here it goes. If you dont have any fish/ coral/ inverts that need lots of light turn you light on for about 4 hours a day for a few days or weeks. Also get a good clean up crew snails crabs and maybe a lawnmower.
Try to keep the power heads so there is current almost every were and keep the glass clean with an algae cleaner.
If you do water changes use RO DI water from a store this will lower the amount of elements that the algae feed on.
Make sure you are not over feeding the fish.

Brown algae? like a film dotting the glass and covering the sand?
If this is your algae, its actually diatoms, and will go away in time, as quickly as they showed up. OR, get (or upgrade) your cleanup crew. Specifically snails and Blue legged hermits.
