Algae

i have a bad green algae growing on the sides of my tank and have made several attemps to scrape it off, purchased lots of snails but they dont seem to get the job done can someone recommend something that will be easy to get it off with or something i can add into the tank to make the algae go away, thanks - Anders

Are you sure it's algae?
If algae, it is probally due to increased nitrates and phosphates from either your water source, bio load, or over feeding or all of the above. You'll have to test to be sure but if you reduce them through water changes with nitrate and phosphate free water and continue to pull out the hair algae it will clear it up.
Can you provide some tank info (age, size, params, and livestock)?

Age - 10 months
Size - 24 gallon nano cube reeg tank
Livestock - 1 gold maroon clown, 1 six line wrasse, brittle star 2 emerald crabs, 1 peppermint shrimp , some snail and hermit crabs

We just had that problem and it was suggested we try a razor blade - carefully- on the glass ( not on acrylic tanks tho) and it worked great! My husband rigged up a razor blade on a long stick with super glue and gently all the green algae was scraped off the sides. It looks beautiful now!
