just started my tank 2mo ago but just installed pc a week ago. im getting brown algae on my caribean rock and green algae on my figi is this normal and when will i get coraline? im only running the 10000k becuse my actinic broke during transit
The brown could be diatoms. The green could be a hair algae outbreak from adding stronger lighting.
Diatoms are common in a new tank. Check your water parameters, including phosphates. Are you using RO/DI water?
Neither of these turn into coralline algae. Coralline algae typically outgrows them in a mature tank with proper water parameters.
Welcome to SWF
Even if you get your water from lfs you still new to check water parameters. Please list
amm.-
nitrites-
nitrates-
SG-
Phosphates-
temp
also list more about your tank. Size, filtration, # of lbs of lr/ls, what livestock is in it. What type of water do you top off with? RO/DI or tap?
Then we will beable to see what help you may need. If you have any pics of algea it would also help to ID it.
45 gal with 21# of lr, 3 damsels in there, i top off with lfs water, i have a marineland c220 canister with a coralife 125 skimmer, 2 maxijets with sureflo mods, and the temp is 79-80 deg
2 months old your tank is still going to do it`s thing.Diatoms is normal (light brown)hair algae could be lights and for coralline algae what`s your calcium at ?
i dont know what my calcium is i dont have atest kit? i just get it tested when i go into the lfs... last time they told me it was perfect for what i have in there...
i wonder if they say it`s perfect for what you have because it`s only a couple of fish. The stores around here will not even test for calcium Anywhere between 380-420 good for coralline and inverts.
