we say that certain algae, primarily coraline, is good becuase of: looks, it is an indicator species (grows in systems with high water quality), and becuase it isn't invasive. other algae, like hair or blue green algae, is considered bad because the opposite is true: looks bad, is an indicator or a poorly maintained system, and is invasive to corals and others.
as for the bristleworms...most species are harmless scavengers. a certain few are dangerous to inhabitants and you. size has nothing to do with it. a 6" detrivore is still a detrivore.
