algae?

i have some brown algae in my tank. currently it has 1 black damsel (which will be evicted soon), and 2 snails. is the algae bad? if so, what can i get to get rid of the algae?

how long have u had the tank? when did it cycle? what are your water param's. whats ure light,filter,skimmer,what kind of water do u use.

i've had the tank for a few mths now. it had finished cycleing, as it did house fish, but they all died (at once). the water parameters are all good, but the mitrite is a little high (.1ish). the light is a 20w, a eihiem 2215 filter, there is no skimmer yet, as it has not been a mth yet with fish in it. and my lfs sells water, so i haev bought it from them.

anyone have any ideas?
my fiance says the color of the algae is beige / brown.
is it bad, good, or it doesn't matter
