Algae

Anyone have any good ideas on how to get algae off of the inside of an acrilic tank without scratching the crap out of it..:).
My tank has been set up for a couple of weeks. I have all kinds of algae growling, leafe, red, green, and now hair on the glass. My nitrites are almost at zero, so I am hoping it wont be much longer till I get the cleaner crew going. I am hoping that will help control the algae..
Thanks

some snails, hermits, and patience should take care of it. do you have good source water? try to use ro or distilled if you can. tap water is notorious for undesired algae growth. also, make sure you aren't overfeeding your tank. this adds to the growth as well. also, if you use vho, make sure the bulbs are fairly fresh. you might try reducing the number of hours they are on until it gets under control. good luck :D

As far as physically removing algae, you can get a bunch of different scrapers. Kent Marine makes a nice big one (35"). There are 2 types you can use for acrylic. The acrylic safe soft pads and also the plastic scrapers. I myself use the plastic scrapers, less chance of getting sand stuck in the pad and scraping the acrylic. Good luck to you.
