my tank has been set up for a few months now, get brown algae but now ive noticed it's getting to be a reddish color. is this natural? is it coralline? i've been scrubbing it off the sides and front of the tank and just leaving on the back.

Yes, this is natural. What does the red algae feel like? Is it slimy or do you have to really try to get it off of the glass? If the red is slimy it is probably cynobacteria if it is hard to get off then it is more than likely coralline. If it is cyno, suck it out with a turkey baster and dispose of it. Cyno is sometimes caused by overfeeding, or insufficient skimming.

I'm not sure what it is, but I am in the same boat as you.... my tank has been set up for about 3 and a half months. Tank was perfect until about 3 weeks ago when I started using Dominicks RO water... after that, I started getting brown algea all over the tank and the rocks/sand. I think they might be diatoms, but has anyone ever heard of this kind of water containing silicates??? I checked it for phosphates it doesn't have any.... All of my other params are perfect! It's really making the tank look bad, I clean it and it comes back within days.... cleanup crew can't make a dent.... any ideas anyone?
