Algea covered corals

When I first purchased my tank I added a pair of dead white corals in the tank. 5 weeks later, they are covered with algea. What is the safest way to clean them?

You can try to boil it and see how that works. In my case the coral was too big for the pot I had so I was told to put it in a container (i used the cheapo rubbermaid tub) with some bleach, let it sit in there for an hour then empty the bleach water and let the corals soak in regular water until there is no bleach odor (when doing this I changed the water every 30 min) and it took about 2 hours. :D

Bleaching is better than boiling.Boiling will kill and COOK any bacteria or critter in the coral. Then when you put it back in the tank it could cause major problems.

Chlorine bleach - like clorox (however you spel it), a capful or two to a gallon of FW and scrub... kills algae really good. I have done this many times in FW tanks. The key point to remember is to rinse well or soak in FW (no bleach) and add a dechlorinator ( I do about 5 times the recommended usage to make sure the clorine is gone....)HTH :)
