Algea Magnet and Auto Feeder

I was wondering if someone could tell me if the algea removing magnets work well or if it is better to scrape it off with a razor.
Also, does anyone have a reconmendation for a good (cheap) automatic feeder for flake food that will work for ten days?

Algae magnets work great for the soft fine stuff but the hard algae still needs to be scraped off.
