You should attempt to locate the source of the nutrients in which the algae are thriving on...then after you solve that little battle, look to species to assist you in controlling it.

Depends on what kind of hair algae you have. If it is bryopsis, which is fern like in appearance, lettuce nudibranch's work very well. But they have a strict diet for bryopsis only.
Lawnmower Blennies eat standard hair algae if it isn't too long. There are also hermits that eat it. Sally Lightfoot crabs are good at cleaning up as well.

It will continue to spread despite what you put in to consume it...there is a cause to the algae...nitrates, phospates, poor/old lighting...something....you have to fix the root of the problem.

I have some DARK GREEN algea growing on one of my rocks and I dont know what it is. I only have 72 Watts of PC(T-5)lighting on my tank. I think it is green corallina but I have 2 shades of that growing already in green and I also have pink purple and red all at the same time growing. Not so much red but a lot of pink purple and green.
Yes it has a "HARD" texture but not like my purple corallina has.
It also is growing like SOLID green horns. LOL it sounds wierd but I swear it is true.
Any idea's or pictures of some corallina algea would help me indetify this mystery algea..
Thx for all the help.
PS who was the guy who loved to have plant life in his tank.
And not many people agreed with him.

That would have been bob...beaslybob or something like that...
As for your algae...the hard stuff...which comes in more color variety then you can shake a stick at...is probably coralline...coralline comes in many shapes as well...
Do a search for coraolline algae here and on the web to find more information on the particulars...but if it isnt soft like plant tissue...then it should be ok.
