I have had my tank up for over A year with little or no problems . I have a 50 gal.My filters are a fluval 400 ,A trickle sump ,a prizm potien skimmer I have recently bought was using a bubble one seamed to work fine.my lightes are a 250 watt mh. and 2 actinic 36" flo.don't know what else I could tell you.I do use a 18 watt uv sta. I have always used a aquarium pharmaceuticals test kit and the alk and kh test is very vague it just sayes low, norm,highbut my nitrate is 0,my amn is 0,my nitrite is 0 ,my calcium is 480-,and ph has stayed within 8.0 to 8.25 depending on the time of day. the other day my sea anenome looked bad and my brain coral won't open and I lost A cleaner shimp I have had forever the biggest one I have ever seen.
so I started testing my water my ph had went to 8.35 to 8.36 on my meter so I first tested my meter it's ok so I did a water change 25%. I do one of these once a week last week 2.didn't seem to fix it so i went and bought a salifert kh/alk test much more detail than the other I find my alk is 2.74 and my kh is 7.7. bad I think I always thought it was ok with my other test. so I went to the lfs they gave me kent marine superbuffer-dkh .I followed the inst on back added for 4 days my alk is now1.60 and my kh is 4.5 I don't know what else to do or if I am on the right track everything is going the wrong way. my wife wants to know why I started messing with it now things are looking bad it looks like my fault.help with some input thanks
