All-Glass Overflow -- Loud!

Anyone,
I finally filled my new 90 Gallon All-Glass tank last that has an overflow. I've never owned a tank before with an overflow and before reinventing the wheel out of PVC, just bought the All-Glass overflow kit. It looked great, has a little sponge, a float that goes into the PVC piping, however, it is really loud (Loud enough for the wife to complain). Outside of cutting a piece of plexiglass, does anyone else have this particular tank with the All-Glass overflow and has experienced this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Please help...

I have that tank and I thought it was fairly quiet compared to oceanic. Did you use the rubber slip on the upper part of the overflow? it restricts the water and aims it downward.

Yup, but I think I just found the problem. Someone confirm this for me. I think that the SUMP pump is underpowered Aquaclear 4000(400gal/hr) and doesn't throw enough water into the tank. It has enough to keep the overflow working but the water just creaps through the sponge and creates a heck of alot of noise. If I purchase another pump, it will in-turn increase the water in the overflow thus causing more water to flow through the PVC pipe, thus dampening the sound. Am I on the correct path here?
