Almost bought a dog...

Well today i was looking at an exotic pet store with my girlfriend....
Thow only reason i went in ther was to look at the monkeys they had
I found a beautiful 8 week old femal german shepard pup with shots and worming

for 99$ !!!!!!! pure bred at that! She just was not registered....which i could care less about.
I was sad when my mom would not let me bring it home...no matter how much i said i would pay for everything for the doggie....oh well.
I just wanted to vent

99 dollars is very inexpensive for a German Shepherd. Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the pup?

shepherds are great dogs and companions
I don't know about where you are from, but around here
they go for about 2-250 if registered ACA
and 4-450 for AKC registered, unless they have champion lines(preferably parents) then they can go MUCH higher.
without papers, they can often be bought for 50-100, unless you want to wait and get a 12-15 week old(puppies sell, but once they start to grow, they give them away or almost give)
The CEO of the company i manage has a kennel and works with a rescue service, she just purchased an AKC registered male husky with champion grandparents, and got it for 150 WITH papers MERELY because the dog was 4-1/2 months old. Just to give you an idea what happens when they get bigger, AND that was from a pet store.
ONE thing you need to look at closely with shepherds is their hips, an it is easier to rule out such problems with a pedigree to see how the parents are and they blood lines.

Buying a dog at any pet store is NEVER a good idea IMO. Every one of those animals probably came from a puppy mill (no matter what they tell you). If you buy from them, you give them a reason to stay in business. Those breeding stock animals live in horrible conditions.

oh...welll it was cool any ways....
Im gonna try and build a big dog house for the weiner dogs and the up coming big dog...hopefully that will make my mom see that i am responsible and can keep the dog!

Ditto. Plus most petstore puppies have serious health, temperament and/or behavioral issues. As hard as it is, it's best not to purchase puppies from such an irresponsible source.

I agree, most pet store puppies are from puppy mills, I worked at a pet store that sold puppies, and I hated it. the only type of dogs pet stores should sell is mutts puppies that need a home.

as far as the cost of that pup, i dont think it has anything to do with the health of the animal. i bought my dalmation (from a breeder) for $100 only because she didnt have any papers (which i also could care less) she was housebroken with 1-2 weeks! she has been a wonderful, loving & healthy dog (except when she ate a barbie doll and it got lodged in her and it cost me $1000 to get it out ) for the last 10 years! i see signs of artritis now though

I saved my puppy from the SPCA. No pet stores around here sell puppies, thank god.

I agree $99 is extremely cheap for a Pure bred German Shepard. My shepard now cost 600 and the one before that cost 400 from a breeder. They are great dogs though. Heres my dog Lisl:
