First i'll start of with what i have. 90 gal with 30 gal sump. Fish and live rock only with a few snails and crabs. No corals. Well i have a bad case of ick in my dt. I have done water changes regularly and Treated the tank for 6 days with reef safe ick meds. I lost my dog faced puffer yesterday and don't want to loose any more of my fish but they are all showing signs of ick this morning. So I was going to put the fish in a qt tank and treat them while letting the dt sit with no fish for the 4 week life cycle of ick. I know that 30 gal is not a lot of room for my fish but the only other alternative thati know of is to treat with copper meds in my dt but from what i understand that will kill my live rock and sand. I dont want to put copper in the dt. So if i put the fish in the qt for 4 weeks what should i treat them with? What meds have you all found to work the best? And do you think this will work. The fish going into the qt are as fallows,
1 small (1inch) volitan lion, 1 sailfin tang (about 4inch) 1yellow tang(2 inch) 1 maroon clown (1inch) and a bicolor angel (1 1/2 inch).
p.s. we were going to put pvc pipes of different sizes for hiding. and bying a new test kit today. The lfs said my water levels were fine but my (new) test kit say's different.

You could treat with copper but if that 30 is going to be your sump again the copper will get into your DT, so I would say Hypo, sorry to hear about your puffer

the only problem i see with the fish in the 30 gallon qt is that the tangs will fight .probably the yellow winning.i had my fowleri and purple in a 55 gallon qt and the fowleri chewed off the purples back fins so i put the purple in my other 33 gallon qt.maybe pick up a 10 gallon for the yellow .i have put copper in my 225 dt and now it has a huge cuc and 300 lbs of lr with no problem.i just did a huge water change and ran two pads of culprisorb.but i wouldnt suggest it.i dont like using copper with lions or tangs because you will most likely get secondary infections.if you do the hypo i suggest 1.007-1.008 instead of 1.009.it wont harm the fish any and putting the water at 1.009 is a fine line for accuracy.just watch the ph ,get a buffer and premix the water change water in a seperate bucket for a day or two.
if it werent for ich this hobbie would be a breeze.
sorry about the puffer .i lost my golden puffer 6 months ago i was sick.

can i just hypo the fish in the 30? The 30 that they are in luckily is not the sump tank. It's just a spare that i don't use anymore. Used to be my sons freshwater. I want to hypo the fish but i am having a hard time locating the right hypo meter thingymabobber. I looked for one today at the lfs in the area with no luck. So i will have to tavel a little this weekend looking for one.
If i can't find one i will have to use meds.

I would not place all those fish in a 30G for treatment when I could move the snails and crab into the 30G and hypo the DT. Good luck at whatever you decide to do.
I would not use copper or any other medication in my DT unless I had no other choice.
