Size does matter but not the way people think in this hobby.
Upkeep on larger tanks can really put a damper on the fun when you think about the costs and time involved.
The new 300 im putting together will be an arm and a leg just for Salt every week. Let alone price of bulbs. The power company sends me Christmas cards now sheesh.
All joking aside. Larger systems allow you to spread out and give a certain amount of awe factor to when people come over. But that is far overrated since they dont realy even know what they are looking at. They point at the "Nemo" and look right past your prized colonies.
Your in the hobby for yourself, so you might just wait on a larger tank. 1k will buy quite a bit of coral for your current tank. Once you house all the different corals you wont feel so pushed to track them down, much enjoyment can come from a tank WITHOUT adding anything to it. When new to the hobby your focus will constantly change, SPS on month, then LPS, then back to an insatiable lust for as many different colored zoo you can get, and so on.
Time will tell you where you will be focusing. THEN the money spent on your tanks will be directed to a goal. Much easier to stomach eqipment costs when its for the long term, not for two months and the plan changes.
Spouses appreciate it too.
Good luck and yes its addictive. But it doesnt have to be so expensive to enjoy the learning curve.
