I don't keep my QT running 24/7/365, so I was woundering if ammolock 2 would a problem, b/c I put 4 fish in a 10 QT with dividers and I'm thinking ammonia maybe an issue. What are your thought or suggestions. Thanks
When i got my very first SW tank, the LFS sold me Ammo Lock 2(as a DECLORINATOR!). I was using this to add to the FW that i adding to replace the evaporation, little did i know that i was TOTALLY screwing up the cycle in my tank. Everytime you add it, it takes out the ammonia that your biological filter acctually needs to live. In your QT tank i wouldn't use it, I would just do a water change everyday in the QT to keep your water parameters on the mark(well close to the mark). You could use the Ammo Lock 2, but on the bottle it tells you that you can add it 3 times before needing a water change(which your allrdy going to have to do anyways).
I would say your better off not using it...
Ammo-Lock 2 should only be used as an immediate patch for an ammonia spike. Even though a water change is better to do, Ammo-Lock 2 will convert ammonia to a non-toxic form and prevent any problems to your critters. If you use this formula and you test your water for ammonia, it will still read as though you did not add any....just the way it works I guess.
