My 20 gallon saltwater tank has now been setup for about 6 weeks today! I have 25 pounds of live rock, 25 pounds of live sand, aqua c remora s protein skimmer, aqua clear 50 filter, nano powerhead. I've been testing the water using the API saltwater master test kit and I could be reading it wrong but looks like I am still getting a ammonia reading and have been for at least a week zero nitrite and very high nitrates advice please? Also did a small water change at the 4 week mark just 2 gallons

How did you cycle the tank, and what is in there now? I have had tanks that took 6 weeks to cycle, especially in the days before properly cured live rock was available. It would also be worthwhile to run the ammonium assay on some freshly made water to see if that pale color really indicates the presence of ammonium.

As about the big question is What grade live rock you have. Do you have any Fish . Have you applies any cycling aids.

Post back all of you water chemistry as well with lights you have and there cycle.
There is not a ONE Solution fits all .

My best guess is there is still Die off on the live rock.you Should do a 15- 20 percent Water change every two weeks .
But having live rock and using standard lighting (cheap ones that come with tanks) CAN CAUSE Your exact issue as well
So
So
More info is needed to get a better understanding about your tank your setup .
