ammonia, please help!

i have a 37 gallon tank with a royal gramma and a blue spotted watchman goby. i got the goby about 5 days ago. i tested my water about 2 days ago and it was fine. my goby wasnt eating well today so i tested my water again. my ammonia=.25 my nitrites=0 and nitrates=20. what should i do? im getting a protein skimmer in the mail today, will that help? should i change some water? i really need help here.

The new addition to the bioload would be my guess. A water change should help.

i knew why i had ammonia i just dont know what to do about it. since it is only at .25, which i dont think is toxic to a goby and royal gramma, should i wait to see if it goes down tomorrow? i added some stress zyme hopefully that will help. and stated above im going to hook up my protein skimmer as soon as the UPS man gets here. should i just wait and test the water later tonight, and if its still bad then change?

Sounds like a good plan to me. Should go down or start to on its own. Good luck.
