Ammonia Problem and Question

I have noticed that my star polyps have been closed for a couple of days. I decided to check my chemistry tonight and here is what I found.
Ammonia = 1 ppm
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0
Should I use an ammonia locking agent and do some water changes? Or, should I just concern myself with some water changes? I have honestly never had an ammonia spike before.
What are some causes of ammonia? Nothing has died in my tank and I use RO/DI water with a TDS reading of 0.
BTW - the tank is one year old.
Any help is appreciated...

do you turn your filter off when you feed. i didnt and mine got really high once. i check my filter and found i sucked up a cube of brine shrimp. sounds like something has died or maybe you over feed

Thanks for the fast reply Cathy Joe. Can over feeding cause an ammonia spike? I thought that caused high nitrates.?.? I see that you are a fellow TN reefer. Are you over here near Chattanooga or some place else?
