Ammonia problem

o.k. I think the reason i had a huge ammonia spike is because I added a eheim wet/dry filter to one of my other aquariums which i had let sit over night and probally killed all the bacteria that was in it. I pulled it out of another aquarium that i have. well adding to the other aquarium I think that all of dead bio caused ammonia spike. So what should I do now take it out or clean bio with aquarium water or what I am stuck! I would greatly appreciate any help someone could give me I have a 2 fluval 404's in there besides the eheim I was told you can never have enough filtration. In one of my fluvals i have all bio media and the other mostley mechanical and chemical. I figured the eheim would just hold more bacteria. So i don't know weather to take it out, or just clean it, or just leave it alone and wait for ammonia to go down. I did do 20% water changes daily and that brought it down to zero but then the next day it was up to .25 Help Help Help!!!!!

What happens when all that bacteria dies is that the ammonia goes up.....I would removed the "problem" filter media and replace it with fresh and start over again. What type of fish do you have in your tank, because you may be looking at some problems if you're not careful.

I have a humahuma trigger, foxface,yellow tang, and a maroon clown which are all doing great so far. I just cleaned off the eheims ehifisrat with aquarium water to clean off any dead bio bacteria and put it back in I did a water change and will just wait and prey that is goes back down. If it does not I will take it out of there. would this fix the ammonia problem takeing out a emperor 400 caked with good bio bacteria to eat the ammonia from another one of my tanks? Take the eheim out or clean the ehifistrat from the eheim wet/dry 2227

I would say yes to the Emporer 400, as long as it has good bacteria and you are pulling it out of another aquarium.....if it hasn't been running in a while the same thing will happen that has happened with your canister filters.
