Ammonia Reading in a Est Reef Tank

Last night we ran all the tests on the tank we dont hardly ever check ammonia or nitrite. We usually just check nitrates. Well last night we had a ammonia reading over just under 1.0 nitrites read 0 and nitrates read between 5-10. We just had a purple LTA die in the tank would that be enough to cause the reading in ammonia. Tank is a 150g with 30gal sump and a skimmer. any ideas?

that will do it .... i'd do a partial water change and run some carbon if possible.
