AmQuel should I use it?

I bought some AmQuel instant water Detoxifier. I have high ammonia 0.50. I need to cut down the feeding(but its so fun to watch them eat). <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> So I put it in <img src="graemlins//freak.gif" border="0" alt="[freak]" /> . It says AmQuel protects aquarium and pond fishes and invertebrates by quickly eliminating ammonia, chloramines, and chlorine. Has anyone else tried this stuff?

I don't have a test kit for alkolin or calcium should I get them?

I have used AMQUEL for many many years, 6 to be exact, in fresh and saltwater it does work, but I have only used it to decholr. my water, I don't use it to reduce nitrite or ammonina instantly because it doesn't, it does a great job at dechorl. but that's about it. So if you want to use it to reduce ammonia instantly then I would not advise that because it doesn't work, am quel is only good for decholr. However, RO Unit is highly suggested of course, but if not, KENT MARINE dechol. is also highly recommended.

I use AmQuel. I wouldn't use anything else for water conditioning. I have never tried it to reduce my levels, but use it when I do water changes ect. One time on a thorough tank cleaning, I had bleached my corals, but didn't soak them in water with AmQuel. Well all my fish got sick, and I lost 2 of them. I was gone for the weekend, and when I got home I added a bunch of it to remove the extra chlorine, and the remaining 3 fish lived (they were very sick too) and are doing great now!!!
As for alkolin or calcium I have never tested for them.

It can work to a degree in reducing harmful ammonia. However, what needs to be done to reduce ammonia is continueous water changes until the water reads zero.
You need to find out why the ammonia is at that level and fix the problem. If overfeeding is the reason, you are not doing your livestock or tank a favor by overfeeding your fish. As you can see.
