Well depending on how you do yours. I have a waste bucket and a fill bucket.
I turn off all the pumps and lights. I start a syphon take out the desired amount of water. Then I go to my SW mix container, and pump in about 1/2 of a buckets worth of SW into it. Carry it over to the tank and pour it into the rear chambers. I fill that bucket up half way again and repeat. I am done with my water change.

along with what perfect stated pour the water into the tank slower. I use a pump to remove and replace my water, so that wouldnt be too much help for you

with my 20 gal its pretty simple. i get two 5 gallon buckets. one waste water, one for clean. mix the water about an hour before( or if you have a holding container take it from there. i have 2 large heavy duty trash cans in the basement i keep stocked with clean SW) syphion waste water into one of the buckets. and pour the clean water in. at lowes or where ever you can get nice ones that have spouts built into the lids so it makes it really easy and clean to pour into the tank. for me thats a perfect 25% change. the buckets have lil marks on the inside for each gallon so its easy to tell how much is in them....hope i helped... the 90 gal is a punk to get done, as well as my 125 thats being set up today

It's only messy if you're spilling water around. Just siphon out the old and pour in the new.
You're only talking like 3 gallons anyway! A 5gal bucket to siphon into, pour it out. Fill 3 gallons of RO water and mix in 1.5 cups of salt, pour in tank. Doesn't get much easier than that.
You should hear what some people on here have to do when it comes time for a water change! ...better plan a Saturday for it! lol

The best waterchange method has been stated many times...siphon out old water. Pour in new water...I siphon in the new water so I don't disturb anything. Now on to my hijack of thids thread. My water gets mixed in a 44gal trash can (in my basement) from lowes or home dumpster I can't remember. Once mixed the water will churn around for 5 days or so waiting to be removed, all this time the lid is fastened to the top of the can....is this bad not allowing air to get to the water?

I siphon the water out with 1" hose because it gets the water out in a hurry - then I use a Mag 5 to pump waste water out of the bucket and into the sink - take pre-mixed SW and pump it back into the tank. Fairly easy operation.. Only a few drips here and there. After you do it enough you'll get it down to a science.

14-gallon tank 25% water chance at most. Correct me if I am wrong that’s 3 ½ gallons at most. Shphon, tubing, pumps. Talk about over kill one 5 gallon bucket to dump into an a one gallon plastic milk container with the top cut off.

Yeah, I have a great system for big tanks. But for a 14 gal nano; I'd think a couple items from the dollar store and 10 minutes max should do it...and that would include a glass cleaning.

practice.
That's all there is to it. Follow the advice above and develop a routine. You'll be able to do it with your eyes closed eventually (not recommended though!)

You have to oxygenate the water that is sold pre-mixed as well.

I think I did; works great, huh? The one I have is a 80 gal industrial container; with a new tank in the house, I even use another regular rubbermaid can on wheels for top-off,,,my son's job. But, with some imagination, this just doesn't have to be a big job. The easier it is, the more often it gets done.
