An oddball question?

Does it matter if your return from the sump to the tank is vertical, sloping, or a combination of both? I want to lose as little GPH flow as possible, but is the shortest length possible better than the fastest vertical rise? Any thoughts to resistance, back pressure, etc? Thanks.

Although the lenth of the return piping or hose does affect the amount of flow to some degree, the vertical distance of piping above the pump by far has the greatest impact on flowrate.
"Head" pressure = the vertical distance in feet or inches times the specific gravity of the saltwater ( density).
Orientation of your pump, whether the output of the pump is horizontal, vertical or at an angle in your sump, would have a slight affect on flowrate. I'd consult the pump manufacturer or instructions to see if they recommend one way over the other.
