I just finished spending the last 2 hours removing bubble algae from my reef.I was getting pissed because the last two people to see the reef comented on the bubble algae before anything else:mad: .Anyway, the biggest one was about 3/4 of an inch in diameter.Did'nt have but one pop before i got all I could see out.Next I get to tackle the gsps.

you may want to buy a emerald crab, they will eat all the bubble algea off relatively qquickly and are fun to watch, i had lots of bubble in my tank as well so i bought an emerald and it was gone within 2 days.

I would DEFINITELY suggest an emerald crab . . . especially since one of the bubbles burst. Unfortunately since one burst its only a matter of time before they return with a vengance . . .

atleast you could take it off, I have some that are covered by xenia and no way of removing it unless I pop it.

I have tried the emerald crab thing and never saw them eat a one. They spent more time picking at other things, even corals. And,they were definatly emeralds! It's weird how I never had the stuff and one day it just appeared:confused: .

I can try and get some pics. They have popped up all over the tank since I moved the tank several months ago.I thought I had them isolated in a corner, but they have now begun to grow all over the glass. There is a small colony heading for my tri color Acropora now too.

My Emerald Crab got rid of my bubble algae but he also ate the heck out of a beautiful Red Open Brain I had too! I had another Mithrax type crab that ate the polyps off of some othe corals as well. Since then I only have hermits in both my system.

Janelle,
here's a pic of the gsps making a get away.I plan on letting them get up higher and scraping off any that get to far out of hand.

those gsp can be a pain... I've tried scrubbing it and no luck, anyone have any good suggestions on getting it off a rock, other than drying it out, or boiling, it.. or any other extreme measures..

I just took a piece and put in my G/F tank. Isolating didn't work for me, they just started to matt out over the sand and is now headed to the rock work. So far it's been fraged 3 times and going on #4

Dave,I carefully picked them off by hand. There are some I did miss and will have to tackle again. As for the ballast, take a look in the trading/classified section. There is a post there that explianes it all.I just don't want to reply to it to keep the thing going...it's pointless.I got the whole thing put into a canopy, have a new ballast(uped to vhos),and have an electricial friend coming over Saturday to help me hardwire it.The guy's name to look for that started the post is perschek,or something like that.

waterfaller,
thanks, I'll try that again.. Last time I tried, I may not have gotten it good enough. It's covering so much of the rock, I didn't want to leave too much kalk past sitting there, maybe if I leave it sitting a little longer.

If you can take the rock out and have access to a Dremel you can cut the gsp and some rock off.
