I've had a BTA in my system for a couple months now which has been growing and eating quite greedily, so when I placed and order on this site, I thought I'd put a couple inexpensive ones on the order to try.
Their behavior since they've been put into the tank has not exactly been what I'm used to.
First the Fla. condi.. he will NOT stay put. He sticks to one area of a small pile of LR, but moves 4-6 inches back and forth each day. He keeps his foot down between the rocks, but never attaches. It's low flow, so he doesn't float around. The really strange thing is that he completely deflates down to where his tentacles aren't even visible. He inflates early morning and then deflates about 10-12 hours later. When he's inflated, he eats voraciously. I keep him well fed with Mysis and chopped tiger shrimp.
The pink tip stays put, but he does the same inflate/deflate, except that his cycling doesn't follow any times of the day. Again, this happens daily. The same as the latter goes for feeding.
The BTA stays inflated all the time except immediately after eating. His behavior is what I'm comparing the other to. The BTA is constantly growing, and therefore I only assume healthy.
Does anyone see anything strange in this, or is this normal for these species?
55g, 440 VHO 50% actinic white, 50% super, ph8.3, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, calcium 350-450, 1.022, 78f, 1000gph, aragonite.
