i just recently bought a white sabae anemone. ive had it for about 4 days and it still doesnt want to anchor to anything really well. i have good water quality and lighting. is it just trying to get used to the water? it looks open and healthy. also i have a cinnamon clown and was wondering if it would take the anemone? if so how long does that usually take?

What is the water flow like in the tank?
What is the light you are uesing?
A list of water lvl's may help us help you.
Did you choose to drip acclimate it?

the flow is good in the tank. i acclamated for about 2 hours. i just slowly added water into its bag. i have a compact flouresent which should be enough light. i dont know my water lvls. but the store tested them and said everything was good.

How old is your tank? Not knowing what your specific water perameters are is a no no in general but even more so when wanting to house an anemone. Seeing as though you think your lighting is sufficient I am guessing your LFS told you that, and is this the same LFS that told you your water was "fine"?
Given the fact that the anemone was only introduced 4 days ago its possible that it could still be acclimating to your tank. I would be more positive about this if your tank specifics were posted and everything was spot on. Given that its not, I am afraid it more of environmental issues than acclimation.
To help further you would need to answer these specific questions..
Lighting: what type, what wattage
Tank: Size in Gal and Depth
Water chemistry: Salinity, pH, Temp, nitrate, nitrite and amonia.
Lastly tank specifics, how long has it been set up, what is in it besides your anemone, filtration what type, and dosing if any.

If you trust the lfs with teating your water ok.
But pc lighting may work for some stuf, Anemone likes a strong flow of water moving across it and strong lighting most of them will only die with pc's.
It could still be acclimating but it may be trying to find more light.
Anemones move that way to find food and more light.

my water
PH is right around 8
Salinity is right at 30
Nitrite is at 0
i dont know my nitrate sorry
my light is a 13 watt compact flouresant
my tank size is an 12 gallon
Temp. is at 80
there is about 10lbs of live rock and two small clowns and the anemone
its has an elcipse filtration system (bio wheel) that puts out about 200gph
hopefully this will help out. i can return the anemone. so tell me to do that if that would be best.

RETURN THE ANEMONE !!.. first your tank is far to small for it. Secondly I hope your Salinity is not 1.030, but your SG specific gravity is 30ppt, which means you tested with a hydrometer. This could be way off either way, I believe a 35ppt reading @ 80* temp is 1.026 salinity. I think your at 1.022 or so which is a bit low. All that aside your lighting is far below what you should have for your anemones care... Good Luck

Thats not the reason why you should return the anem. If the tank perameters were spot on and your lighting was sufficient it would quickly out grow your tank. In less than a year no doubt. All that aside your lighting is basically the equivelent of keeping the anemone in the dark no matter how close it gets to it. This spells certain death for him, no matter what or how often you feed it. Good Luck.

alright thanks for the advice, i appreciate it. im pretty new to SW. this summer when i get out of the dorms i am going to buy a 55 to 75 gallon tank for my fish because like you said they will outgrow this tank. ill try to keep the anemone till then unless it looks really bad. thanks again for your help. oh and do you think a wet dry and protien skimmer is enough filtration for a new tank?

They should be provided strong light and a decent water flow. Anemones will not tolerate poor water quality.

yes its pleanty IMO.
No prob. and good luck with your anem. Keep in mind when an anemone is failing it typically happens quickly and in a tank your size the likley hood of it crashing your whole system if your not there to catch it is a certainty.

Remember we are all here to help each other out not bash people down for their simple mistakes. Most of us at some point have had a little impulsive type buy and make mistakes. None of us ever want our animals to die but mistakes happen. Keep your chin up and good luck with your animals!

Kudos on returning the anemone and letting him live.
The good news is when you do eventually upgrade to your larger tank, you should be able to have a anemone without issues. Granted that your parameters are correct and you have sufficient light.
