Anemone Questions!

Hello, yesterday i just purchased my first 2 anemones!!! I was only planning on getting one, a beautiful bulb anemone for my clown, but on the bottom of the piece of live rock it was on was a rock anemone. The pet store couldn't get either one of them out of the rock so i got the rock for free and paid for 2 anemones. My question is how long will it take for my occelaris clown to accept the bulb anemone? Right now he doesn't seem interested in it. Also do i have to feed the anemones or do they filter feed? What types of food should i feed them if they aren't filter feeders? Sorry for all of the questions. Please respond. -Ryan

Congrads on the additions....but clowns adapting is sometimes hit and miss....also I hope you have a stable system that has plenty of light...and to direct feed them try assorted meaty foods (brine/mysis/shrimp/silversides etc)maybe twice a week.....good luck with them

I feed mine 1 live goldfish every 4th day, and on a daily basis i'll give it brine, silversides, frozen seafood, and i always add DT into the tank (Plankton)
As for the clown accepting it, well that all depends on the clown. If it was a tank raised clown than he may never go near it, it's up to the clown to decide what to do.
good luck, HTH

I was told it was a rock anemone. It is about 5 inches wide and white in color. It has short stubby tentacles with bright pink on the tips. Its base is creamy white with pink stripes. That is the most info i can give. Oh wait it is reallt active at night by extending its tube really high. There I think i have said it all. I really hope it is not aptaisia.

I know what type your talking about. I'v got 5 rock anemonies and 3 other types as well. I feed my'n silversides. Just cut a piece and shove it in there mouths. There easy to keep and add life to the tank.

Don't shove it in their mouths..just place the food in their tentacles - they will move it to their mouth's themselves.

fwiw= Family=Phymanthidae= rock anemone
Epicystis crucifer is the scientific name fwiw But bubbles = false perc isn't a host to bulb. I just happen to ask my buddy who own/does maintance (servive)on alot of tanks for rich ppl= Microsoft ppl who live on the lake with reef tank just for looks but aren't into the hobby. Anyway he said he has never seen z false perc go into a rose bubble only green. he has a dedicted tank with rose and can't get pers to go into them Marroons easy. Dunno if thats the case but some say aptive clown don't host anemone as easily. But I don't know it may take time. Some take weeks to acclimate to anemone and some that had a host in the wild go strait in.

Today my bulb anemones tube and foot aren't noticeable. Is he shrinking?? His tentacles and top part of his body is fine. He had a host clown at the pet store and i think he might be stressed from not having one anymore. Today i am going to get that tomato clown and see if the anemone perks up because someone just now told me that i wasn't supposed to separate a clown and anemone. I hope that clown is still there.

accually thats a good sign. When they hide there foot they found a home for the moment. You usually only see the bublbs or tenticles
