no you dont need one. they could care less. even if you do have one they may not like it. you might find out later that they might have something else as host like a piece of coral or powerhead.
besides, 12 gallons is too small for an anemone and the lighting would not support the anemone

just go with a 40 gallon breeder or a 55 gallon with metal halide. any reason why you want an anemone? if i had a 24 id rather have like an LPS dominated tank with hammer corals, frogspawn, torch corals, plate corals, brain corals, etc... do you like the looks of the tentacles/anemone or do you just want something for your clowns?

If you want two clowns , other fish , and anemone I`d look into a 30 long or bigger . Anemones take up some room and require pristine water conditions . Depending what nem you get you can use pc or T-5 lighting . Then there is M.H. , but that gets pretty costly if all you want is an anemone . I have kept several types of anemones under pc and just now just got a m.h. & pc combo light . I would do some research on anemones before getting any as they need a well established tank with pristine water and med-high light .

I agree ^^ with Dawman. Anenomes are like mobile soft corals with slightly stronger (depending on the type maybe alot stronger) stinging capabilities. And there are alot of different types to get. Do your research before you decide to get one. I too have 1 under PC's its doing fine but I watch it constantly and the size of these things is also a huge consideration. They can change their size instantly just by inflating themselves more they can look almost double the size of what your used to seeing at times. Good Luck

If its under the stock lighting of a nano you are pretty much limited to softies and a few but not all LPS hard corals. Some will sit higher in your tank for more light some wont and some will need a lot of flow and others wont. look carefully at what you are getting before you buy. Good luck.

Oh for sure.. with MH you have no restrictions as to what corals you get. I dont know for sure if too much light is bad for all soft corals I dont think so. I do know if you are going to get a nonphotosynthetic coral like a suncoral or some gorgonians specifically the sun coral cannot have light on it or it will die..at least that is what I was told.

you fill for sure have to acclimate all your corals to MH, especially softies. i have a 250w mh over my 28 and had to acclimate everything. there was just one mushroom who didnt agree where he was placed because the light was so strong and he just slid off the rock. now i'm going to frag the little guy. i have a hammer, gsp, devil's hand, shrooms, brain coral, and clam under that light. i think itll be better for you to upgrade to MH or T5s
i have a 70w mh over my 10 and my zoas and xenia love the light

Yes all the ones I listed above are ok to get with std PC lights.. I have about 80% of them myself under the std Bio Cube lighting.. Good Luck..

With std flourescent lights no photosynthetic properties you are limited to no light corals. Some gorgonians, sun coral and some others but not alot.. The downside is most no light corals have to be spot fed.

For now prob.. it takes some experience in maintaining a no light coral.. over dosing your tank is easy to do when you spot feed.
