Anemones and Clowns

Does anyone know how long it normally takes for a clown to take house with an Anemone? I just added my anemone today. Also, do anemones reproduce by themselves? If I add a single bulbtip to my tank will sometime down the road have another one or do I need to buy a second?

My clowns took them withen an hour. I have read that sometimes it takes months, or sometimes they will not take to it at all. I don't know about the breeding of them. Hope this helps.

Certain clowns only take to certain anenomes. Also for some reason, like Shel said, it may take months or your clown may not take to the anenome. Bulbtipped anenomes when happy will asexually reproduce by splitting themselves into two individuals, but do not expect this anytime soon. Sexual reproduction can only take place with two individuals(male/female), but do not buy another anenome because I do not believe anyone has raised a baby bulbtipped in captivity. What type of clowns do you have? You may have an anenome they will not except

Thanks!

Sometimes, clowns don't bond with an anenome. Mine loved my seabae for a while then switched to my goniopora. Go figure. He really loves it. at night however, he switches to my featherduster because the goni goes to sleep. (shrinks into a little hard ball) My feather duster is used to the clown bedding down with him and he is fine with it. Too cute!!!! You wont need anothe anenome to reproduce (split) I haven't been one of the lucky ones. My anenomes rarely last. My long tip anenome lasted 7 months. (he passed over the weekend) didn't notice til monday but avoided tank contamination by a hair. Did a test and all levels are perfect. Thank God.

Tomato clowns do associate with bulbtippeds in the wild so you have the right anenome. That's is a good start and is also about all you can do to influence your clowns to take to it. The condylactis and the condy are not clownfish hosts and will even eat small 1" clowns on occasion.
Do you have the right lighting for the anenome? The bulbtipped are relatively low light but still need at least four no bulbs over the tank to do well. A combonation of 2 blue and 2 10k bulbs would work well. You should also dose your tank with calcium, iodine, and trace elements for the anenome. While none of this will help get the clowns in the anenome it will give the anenome a suitable place to live. The clowns are easy the anenome for them is hard. And just in case you are thinking this the condy and condylactis anenome will do fine without this type of treatment, but do better with it. If you are unwilling to do this return the anenome to your lfs, as it will probably die without it :( . Hope you the best of luck!
