Anenome hosting?

As all of you probably have experienced, you can go to 20 different places and get 20 different answers when it comes to reef tanks. I purchased a long tentacle anenome just over a week ago, and the individual said that it would host perc clowns. Need less to say, that has yet to occur. Any advice? It is a beautiful anenome and I am lost at what I need to do.

Welcome to the boards !! And just give them time, they might and might not host each other, only time will tell, you may wake up one morning and your clown will be lovin all over it, or you may take them both to the grave, its never a for sure thing, but goodluck to ya Todd

Thanks for the reply. I will remain patient and hopefully things will work out with the anenome. I am extremely patient as I want this tank to be successful as I begin to add corals and other inverts. As of now....things are looking extremely good and all of my levels are where they need to be.

yes it takes some time. my clown took almost 3 months before he/she/it fell in love. eventually it started circling when the anen finally found an area it liked to stay at. then it started guarding that area, and one morning i came in and the clown was sleeping right on the anen! it was like christmas to me. the anen has never been better also, it keeps getting bigger now, whereas it seemed to be fading away without the clown.:notsure:

Its great to receive info from everyone, dealing with the hosting question I have. The anenome seems to still be moving around, and unfortunately, it seems to have taken up with the front of the tank, against the glass. The two percs seem to be moving closer, but then they back away, just teasing me. The anenome is a long tentacle, like I mention previously, and it is rather large. Seems to be doing real good with movement and size!

even if you see clowns hosting in the lfs. they still have to feel confortable before hosting becomes a chance

call me crazy, but ive heard from people on this board who say it works to tape a picture to your tank of the type of clown hosting that type of anenome.
I have no idea if the clown fishie actualy gets the idea to do it, or if it just happens naturaly and would without it, but i hear some people say it works...
couldnt hurt to try right?

Personally I fear for an LTA in a 20 gallon tank, but thats just my opinion. I hope that you have strong lighting for it, hopfully you already know that normal flouresents will not keep it alive.
If it were me I would have a protien skimmer hooked up to this tank, and do small weekly water changes.
Nothing to add about "IF" your clowns will host or not. Check out the stickys at the top of the Clownfish and Anemone forum
Good luck

Yes, if hes crawling up the glass towards the light you might have a problem with lighting issues.

I definitely asked all the questions before purchasing the anenome, and they said that the lighting provided by the Nanocube would be more than sufficient for the anenome. The only time the anenome is moving is at night. Once the lights are on, it digs in to the live sand and spreads out. Because of this, I would have to say that lighting is not an issue.
