Anenome in reef???

Quick question ?!?
I need to place an order from SWF.com to get a replacement fish (long story). Anway, i need to think of some new stuff to order!! One critter that came to mind was an anenome, possibly a red BTA. Is it a good or bad idea to get an anenome in a reef tank that you intend to have STOCKED w/ everything (sps, lps, sofities, clams). Most of my corals are usually frags too, dunno if that matters. BTW tank is 70-75 gal display w/ 500 watts of light (300 halide 200 pc)?

lol r u serious....
You're the first person that said i needed more light for anything. Those halides are only about 2" off the water line.

Well, I dont know...I mean right now you're at about 7 wpg right? But the halides are bright so I dont know, IMO i wouldnt keep an enomone in anything less than 7-10. But I guess you could probably pull it off..

Thats plenty of light, I have a 90 gallon reef with softies, some LPS and others. I also have about 30 Bubble tip anemones or so, don't know I've lost count. So far I've not seen any problems in my tank, except that they are over populated.

everything i've ever seen has said that the WPG rule is wishy washy, PAR is where the money is at and par is effected by several factors primarily bulb intensity (halide vs vho/pc/no), distance off water line (every 10-12" cuts it in half), and temp (K)....so theoretically, i have the same amount of "light" as someone who has 2x250 bulbs that are the normal 10" off the water and probably the same amount of total par as 700 watts of PC. I could be wrong about all this, im just reiterating what i've learned in the past.
I actually thougth about getting more light, but everyone told me i would cook my corals ;)..........so i opted against it heh, i have a few more pc ballasts in the basement

thomas,
What i am concerned about is the anenome either stinging or knocking over the corals....should this be a concern???

Ok, you've got me. Good point. I've justalways been told by everyone that i cant keep an anemone in my 20...I have 7 wpg PC, but my lights are only about 1 1/4 inches on the water line...Maybe I'm wrong, I dont know, best of luck with the aneomone either way..

Hello Jurichar. It looks like you have a 72 gallon bow front. I have the same tank and I'm curious about your light setup. Do you have anymore pics?

As for the concern I have seen my anemone colony win in some cases like pushing the brown star polyps away and finally dissolving some of them. ( I hate the BSP anyway), but other than that I've had some BTA's park right next to leather corals, xenia, mushrooms(that moved) candy cane and others without a problem cause they simply moved on to other areas.

I have fan's built into the hood that I have not really used yet, I don't necessarily run all 940 watts all the time, most is the 440VHO then the halides for about 6 hours per day. I just don't need to run them full time. Plus the tank is in the basement, a bit cooler down there.

thats pretty neat...i may give the anenome thing a try....i guess it cant be too horrible, many people do it. BTW, im from harrison. When i was a wee lad i build a few houses up in midland, now i work as a pharmacist in the bay city/saginaw area occasionally. Small world!!
IIINADAV- i dont know if it is a 72, it was custom made for a guy a few years ago. Its probably about 72 gal, but it has a filtration system incorporated into the overflow. Anway, i have tons of pics...before/after/progress, and i would be more than happy to show them to ya if you have a place to send them.
Let me look for a min and i'll pull up my thread on this board as i was putting the setup together brb
