anenome or not

i have 2 false percs (by the way they chase each other around, is that normal i thought they liked t be in pairs)
anyway, i want to have corals in my tank and i was wondering because i have heard that anenomes can sting coral not to get one. my question is, should i get the anenome first so he can plant himself and not have to worry about the corals, or is he just gonna move when i start adding corals
also which would be the best for a flase perc
or should i skip the whole anenome idea.
thanks :joy:

from what I've read, anemones don't do well in tanks.
I don't think that you NEED one for your false percs and there's no guarentee they will host in it.
You could try Xenia, Hammer Coral, Frogspawn or Torch Coral. They have been known to host in these...and are easier to keep than anemones.

If you have the setup for an anemone (proper lighting, etc.), I would recommend putting it in prior to corals. While some move around anyway, if it does plant it's foot in a good spot, it may not move. Then you can place corals accordingly.

You can also get a bubble tip anemone. These anemone's do not sting and if they do it's something we cant feel if we touch them. Once the anemone finds a spot, they usually stay put. On occasion they will move. But not frequently. I believe you will be safe with this type of anemone and the common clowns love these anemone's. As said before, there is no guarantee that a clown will host an anemone but chances are good they will.

For the purpose of the percs, you don't NEED a host, but you can always add one. Those anem. like pink tip and so forth you're talking about won't harm anything. It's not potent enough. All anem. has nemocy. that can sting, but many times when human touches it, its not potent enough to harm your hands. This is only to those pink tip ones and ones similar. These will not harm other corals, I have 2 in my reef tank along with green carpet, bubble, frogspawn and coral hammer and a pair of percs. But the percs don't go into any of the carpet or the anem. And the anem will move around A LOT. It settles in one place for a while and it can get u pand move. But the best ting to do is to put them in and let them do what they want, chances are they are not going to be where u want them. Good Luck

just a note...I've got 2 false percs and they haven't hosted in anything and I've got...Xenia, Hammer, and Torch Coral.
Maybe when they grow up and get romantic they'll take to something....sigh

Please for the love god do not get an anemone. Most people kill their anemones, and we are talking about pretty experianced aquarists. I did not even attempt to keep one until after having corals and such for quite a while. They need a well aged stable tank, good lighting, strong random currents, and need to be fed silversides krill etc..a few times a week. Even a bubble tip can wreck other corals, not as bad as say a carpet or a Ritteri, but they can still do damage. On top of that the natural host for false percs are Ritteri and Malu. So even if you got a BTA there is a chance they would just ignore it anyway. IF you really must have an anemone you should getone that was tank propogated and pick up some literature on them.

Anemones can move at anypoint. I have had a BTA that has not moved for over a year. I have a Ritteri that is contantly on the move. You just never know, they can be very mobile, when they want. I say go with a hairy shroom. False Percs are just as likely to host in that as they are a BTA. HTH

briggs -- yea it would be in the 125, but i am gonna hold off on it, maybe never get one, i dont know.
i have major algae going on and the crabs & snails just are not doing the trick, but i have pulled some off by hand. i dont know what to do about all this algae, i got a lawnmower blenny from here also. the crabs, hermits etc... seem to go to the base rock and dont mess with the live rock where the major problem is.
some are on top but not even making a dent in it. i am clueless
