Anenome trying to get into the filter... Arrggg!

I have a pink tipped haitian anenome (or maybe a BTA that has bleached) after looking through the boards today I am not so sure what it is...
Anyhow, my anenome has been unusually active lately. He has climbed up the glass, around the rocks and just doesn't seem to be settling down. We have had it for over 4 months and has never been like this since the first couple days that we had it. Last night, I didn't see it anywhere and when I looked at my filter, its tentacles were inside the filter holes and it looked like it was sucking the anenome up. We immediately shut the tank off and got him off of it, with a bit of poking.
THEN... when I woke up this morning, he was stuck AGAIN! This time, we let it get off itself... we didn't want to incur any more trauma. He slowly pulled his tentacles off (over about 2 hours).
This time, we placed him on the other side of the tank.
WHY is he doing this? Any ideas? What can I do to stop it?

There could be a number of reasons why. First its best to know more about your set up. What size tank, how long has it been set up? What type of lighting is over it and be specific to bulb type and wattage. Also how are your water perameters? Post specific numbers for Alk, calc, pH, nitrates, nitrites, amonia, temp and salinity. Identifing the species is also important, can you get a pic up to help further id your anem? Both you have listed are very different from eachother.

Going to do some tank research and then I'll be back with a reply...
Here's what I can answer
55g with undergravel filter AND one that hangs over the edge (I'll get exact in a sec)
About 50 lbs LR
4 bulbs Compact Flourescent (I believe)
Ok... going to do research....

imo not enough light and perhaps high nitrates. when anemones dont get enough light, they will tend to float around on the surface. i think what u hv is a pink tip. they r much more hardier then others.

Ok here's another pic of the anenome... and my clown in the back.
The filter is a Whisper Power Filter 60.
I was wrong about the bulbs... there are 2 florescent bulbs and there is something on the inside of the light fixture that says 30V... still working on the rest.

No where near the minimum of lighting...Condi's (haitians are condi's) are also atlantic anem..There are no clowns in the Atlantic...So it might eat the clown..Under-gravel filters are about 10 years outdated....I dont think it will pull through, If possible I would take it back to the store and try and get credit...

We know the undergravel filter doesn't do much, but it gets things circulating a little...
we have had the anenome for about 4 months and haven't had any problems with it and the other fish.. besides the fact that the anenome doesn't even seem to know it's there.
We recently added 3 small curly Q anenomes... do you think that they are bothering him? they are no where near him.

I doubt its a "bout" of chem warfare.....Sometimes they take awhile to "light starve" They really need a ton of T-5's or Metal Halides....Normal flour. just wont cut it....Trust me I learned the hard way..
The thing with the clown is hit or miss..I had a condi host a maroon one time...then eat a perc later on...

For circulation just add powerheads...(what drive UGF) they dont have to be hooked up to the filter...Just as an example..I have about 5 Maxi-Jet1200's (Garbage in my opinion) behind my 350lbs lbs of Live rock just to blow across the back and 5 Koralia 4's in the main part of the tank...So I have around 7500gph going through the tank..Plus the return pump..

New fixture....and rather costly...around $450-$600....Could be worse...Mine was $1300 if it makes you feel
anybetter..

Or with the cats.. you could build a badArse canopy and retrofit the bulbs in and save some money that way..

wait wait wait Basically, you can create your own canopy and just wire it for the metal halides to work from there... my stepdad is a master electrician... this could work
Nevermind... I figured it out... found a retrofit kit.. again Thanks
