I have a black volitan lion about 4 inches and would like to add a large angel? Will the two be compatible and any suggestions on what angels are the hardiest? Was looking at maybe the Maculosus, Passer or the Cortez?

Well, just to let you know, passers are usually very aggressive. I would probably stay away from them. They are like the sohal tang of the angelfish family, in my opinion. My favorite of the three you mentioned, and probably the easiest going of them, is the Maculosis.

Passer Angels are great fish and IMHO, will do just fine with a Volitan Lion.
However, I would not add one to a tank with a Volitan that was only 4" long.
They can be a very aggressive fish if given time to establish a territory, in the tank and then having another fish added. Make sure you add this fish last and also make sure that you have no plans to add any other fish after it.
Here are a few pics of my 8" - 10" Passer with my 15" Volitan (and a few other friends).

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
seahorse11: It's a female Hawaiian Dragon.
lion_crazz: It's a Bahama Star
surfinusa: That was my 200gal. At the time, it held my Whitemouth Moray, Dragon Moray, The Lion, Sailfin Tang and Passer Angel.
