Angler tank

OK so I want to get a tank that I could drain into my sump in my 75 gallon reef. In the reef sump I have a phosban reactor with phosban in it, a Fuge section, and a swc 150 bmk protein skimmer. So my mom says that I could get one sometime during the summer or at least till after my brother goes of to college lol. So I want an angler because I want a predator that I could keep in a smaller tank. Should I get a 20 or 30 gallon tank? What angler should I get I am thinking either a wartskin (antennarius maculatas) or a striated angler (antennarius striatus). I know to keep them by themselves and to not overfeed them or take them out into air. If anyone has any good articles or such to read please post them. For other inhabitants I was thinking of some zoas and ricordeas nothing special So I think I am going to get a 2x t5 fixture or if I could get the tank in the next week LED's because my lfs is selling a 37 column with stand and I think he will throw in the LED's for 175. Only other stuff I would need is dry rock, live sand, and a silverside to start the cycle. Bringing up the cycle when I get the tank should I have it plumbe into my 75 right away or let it cycle and then plumb it?

Always go bigger with tanks or else you'll say you should have done this....I'd plump it to the 75 and then let it cycle...wartskin.

OK so I will go with the 30 and a wartskin because they are cool and somewhat easy. I have been reading a lot of threads and how come all of a sudden peoples anglers just die? Is it because they are bad shippers or people feed them too much or freshwater fish? Would 79-81 degree waters be ok for one? What equipment should I get for it? I need flow, and lights. Also any good ideas for aquascaping a tank for an angler would be greatly appreciated I want some gorgonians and sponges to help bring out the colo in the ngler and make it look as natural as possible. Hey rickross23, you have been responding in a lot of my threads, you must love me!

Any other help will also be apreciated or any setups anyone has had please share. I also need tips and ideas for acclimating, picking a good specimen and stuff like that.

Idk why their anglers die... For equipment I suggest a protein skimmer, light(do u want a reef), if u want a reef its different equipment needs....for the aquascape, I suggest open space and crevaces, so the angler doesnt stay out of view all the time. Temperature acclimating is best....picking a good specimen...watch him eat and see if he eats frozen...look for no torn, bitten fins, cloudy eyes, gill flukes, or white spots. Hth

I am going to plumb this into my 75 sump which has a proetin skimmer rated for a 125 gallonand a phoosban reactor with a fuge with a lot of chaeto will this be enough? I also plan on puttins some macro in the angler tank. I don't know if I can even do one but my mom said yes and now I just have to get my dad but that is gonna be hard lol.

I know my sump is 30 gallons so then thats 105 then plus the thirty of angler tank 135 a little over but with all the macro algae and phosban reactor I think it will be ok right?

Yes it will be OK, but you will not get the full service of skimmers....my skimmers rated up to 450 gallons...when choosing skimmers, always go 1 up.

Ok also how hard are wartskin anglers to keep? I don't want somethings that takes a ton of care and a lot of maintnince because I'm going into highschool next year.

Isk how hard....LA says moderate care level and not recommended for beginners... Also, their NOT cheap...if you don't want to have a lot of maintenance, why get in the hobby? You get what you pay for and if you don't care much about your tank and don't do what it takes to keep things stable, might as well quit.... Is recommend the striated anglerfish for you since they are easy to keep.

What I mean is that I don't want something thats too hard so then I just wind up wasting my money. I got my reef and spent a lot of time and money and I love it but it's not too much work. Don't get me wrong I love this hobby.

Or instead of an angler what about a small fu mancu lionfish in a 30 gallon hooked up to my sump. Would that work?
I would go with a fuzzy dwarf over a fu. Fu's are hard to wean. PM saxman for more info. He is the king of things that go sting.
