annoying at best

and in the wrong circumstances very dangerous to my tank.
I have a really expensive surge protecter on my 75g (to prevent lightening strikes and other powersurges from back feeding into my tank equipment). my new halide lights keep causing it to trip 2 days out of 5 when they fire up. I thought it was the cats hitting the switch. but this morning it tripped 2x in a row while the lights were building up to fire, I was fortunatly sitting there waiting for my tank to light up to witness this. I unplugged some equipment and the lights managed to fire. I'm glad I was here to figure this out. now I need to circumvent the protecter to keep my tank from going powerless should this happen when I am not around.

That is why I am not using GFI on my tank. I am using a 20amp and plan on using up to 14amps and if everything was running at once then the GFI would be tripping left and right.

Have the same problem. Even if I remove the rest of the load, my T-5's trip the GFCI on startup.

I hate to admit it, but now I just plug the lights into the wall. Everything else goes through the breaker.

The worst part is, now I don't have that visual indicator that the GFCI tripped
