Another dumb question

Ok, this may be a dumb question but I have been battling algea for awhile. I think it is cyano. It is a reddish greenish stringy gooey algea that is forming on my CC and LR. I have noticed that it is not getting on my LR as bad but my CC got covered. I deceided to stop fighting it and see how bad it would get. It appears to be going away on it's own now. I just thought that maybe instead of stirring it up if I let it just grow, maybe it would use up the excess nutrients and then die off. Am I correct or is it fixing to make a surprise ambush and just trick me for now lol?

Sounds like cyano... it will die off as it loses it's food source. Any idea what is fueling it?
Personally I would try and get rid of as much as I could manually during water changes.

Darnit slider, I have not heard or thought of the approach to just let cyano run it's course. You may be on to something. Let's see what others more experienced and knowledgeable than us have to say about it.

LOL, I just got tired of getting it out everyday. All my parameters are correct and I use RO water. Just did a 50% water change a week ago and it still came back. I finally said forget it and lets just see how bad this gets. And presto, this morning it looks less than yesterday. I have found that if you sometimes let things run its course, not just in this hobby, it will correct itself. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Good luck, but keep a close eye on it; I just yesterday picked up about 75lbs of "LR" for free out of someone else's tank who just let it go - everything was covered in a thick nasty mat you could literally peel off. Smothered almost everything on the rock.

Yeah, I am watching it each day. If it starts getting worse i will vac it off and do another water change. I just figured I would watch it and see how far it would go. I was killing myself everyday trying to get it off.

I had a go with cyano a few months back. I turned off my lights for a week, and that pretty much took care of it....oh and I also backed off my feeding some.

It didn't come back when you started using your lights reg? I tried the light thing but can't stand not being able to see my tank. I get anxious and start feeling sorry for the little guys being in the dark. Well I have blue LEDs but still.

The problem probably lies within your crushed coral. Things just seem to get stuck in there and fester. You would have to do alot of vacuming to get all the detrius and uneaten waste out. I would pull it out and get some aragonite sand.

Nope it didn't come back. Yeah I felt the same way for the fish...but they made it lol.
Forgot to add. I did turn on the lights during feeding, but this was the only time, and probably for no longer than 5 minutes.
