Another head stratcher

I guess when Obama implied that the middle east would magically come to the table because of his arab name, he was wrong, so now he's sending NASA?
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...tions-muslims/
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.
Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.
"When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering," Bolden said in the interview.
The NASA administrator was in the Middle East last month marking the one-year anniversary since Obama delivered an address to Muslim nations in Cairo. Bolden spoke in June at the American University in Cairo -- in his interview with Al Jazeera, he described space travel as an international collaboration of which Muslim nations must be a part.
"It is a matter of trying to reach out and get the best of all worlds, if you will, and there is much to be gained by drawing in the contributions that are possible from the Muslim (nations)," he said. He held up the International Space Station as a model, praising the contributions there from the Russians and the Chinese. ...
Ever just sit there and scratch your head?

The guy isn't going over there and do nuclear arms treaty decisions with Iran. I guess his 'mission' is to promote science and technology to Middle East nations. Did you read this statement? --
However, Bolden denied the suggestion that he was on a diplomatic mission -- in a distinctly non-diplomatic role.
"Not at all. It's not a diplomatic anything," he said.
He said the United States is not going to travel beyond low-Earth orbit on its own and that no country is going to make it to Mars without international help.

Another example of Yes We Can't!

I agree with the posts above.
But one thing I find amazing is the reaction to the comments and how muslim countries contributed to science. The reactions that surprised me was along the line of how "they" contributed nothing.
What most westerners forget is that for centuries the middle east was head and sholders above the west as the west went through its dark ages. Of course most of that is forgotten after WWI.

lol because I take anything biden says at face value... I don't have any problem with having relations with foreign countries. I don't really have a problem with multinational space exploration. I just don't understand why you'd have tasked NASA (as one of its top priorities) to reach out to the middle east because we use arabic numerals for our math... Aren't these the turkeys we don't want to know how to build rockets... And we are using our Rocket arm of the government to reach out to them... Then to have the NASA guys saying this is his foremost mission. Why in the world would our space agency's formost mission be improving relations with any country on this planet?

I guess because Washington has scrapped any future funding for deep space exploration. If we want to explore beyond the Moon, we're going to need assistance with someone. What else does this guy have to deal with now they are killing the Shuttle program? BTW - This guy's name is BOLDEN not Biden. Not sure if the VP had anything to do with this decision.

Can't afford to bring out the next generation shuttle but you can send the program director over to kiss muslims butts? I don't have an issue with creating better relations with the Muslim world but I don't think it's NASA's job, at least not as a major directive for the agency.

LOL now that is a funny joke. It could have been Biden wearing a mission impossible Bolden mask...

IMO along with a lot of other federal agencies, NASA needs to be disbanded unless it's sole task is to create some type of military arrangement in space. Exploration should be left to the private sector and all funds used by the feds for NASA should be returned to the people.

You mean the people who earned the $$, or the people to whomObama wants to redistrubute the wealth?
He just appointed another "redistribute the wealth" Marxist to head up medicare.
Kagan can't even answer the question "does the gov't have the power to tell people what to eat?".
Oh joy! Now where's my Bible and gun in these hard times so I can cling to them, as I certainly will not be clining to the cash I earn.

That appointment to "Medicare" is actually a very important position. That CMMS is already a mess, I just hope that boob doesn't make a bad thing even worse. He's only there until the end of the year
