Saw this one in my morning newspaper. They had some 'hat day' at school, and the kid wanted to wear something patriotic, so he attaches a bunch of those plastic army men around the outside of his hat. After he goes to school, the Mom gets a call from the principal to tell her the hat was banned due the the school's Zero Tolerance Policy regarding guns. Seems Little Johnny chose a few of his Army Men that carried the rifles on them. Guess his teacher watched Toy Story too many times, and thought those dangerous plastic Army Men would come to life and shoot somebody...

What happened to the ability to think? Oh, yeah, it's been driven out of the schools by PC policies. In a world where a soccer team automatically loses if they win by more than 5 points and we don't keep score in other games lest the looser feel bad should this really surprise us?

Could this be the reason why so many parents are finding alternatives to public education?

I wouldn't put a kid in public school these days. There was a touch of the PC crap in the schools when my son was still in but most of the teachers and admin were pretty sensible. The only thing I ever objected too was conflict resolution in grade school. It was a panel of kids that would decide punishment for their peers. I think that would be a cool exercise in high school but in grade school teachers are already fighting an uphill battle for respect and in my opinion that kind of went against the grain. a Decade later I would jump for joy if I could find a school that I only had that issue with
