ok las night my dad brought home a 200 that was in the wall of hist store. it hasa built in overflow with a wet/dry on the side. this section looks like it will also have a return because there is an outlet in the tank. there is also what looks like one drain out of the bottom of the tank, and a return??? also through the bottom. it was an in the wall tank, between 2 rooms, and then the sides are painted blue (cause that has such an effect on the plumbing) anyways could someone please explain how this setup works. i can also give more details, just tell me what you need to know.

yes in a drilled tank there usally a hole in bottom for the return to come up fron sump.
the w/r should dit under tank or as in the building it was in it was under to the side a little with the pump inside the sump plumbed to return up inside the tank and though the built in over flow...
also if its a glass tank you can scrape off the paint on the side if you wish too... if other then you need to get someone from a acrlic shop to tell how it can be removed ...

hey randy, it is still kinda different, i think, it looks more like this:

l........................l....l
l......O........O......l..O.l
l........................l..O.l
l........................l....l

i guess that should work, the ... are to help space, forget about them. looking from the top, the "o" are the holes drilled in the bottom, over to the right, that seperate compatrment is the overflow, with the wet/dry media. one drain hole, one return, then there are 2 holes in the main tank. one has a protector on it, so not suck critters, so i am assuming that this wasa drain????? and then the other one a return also??? 2 drains and 2 returns??? well it is big. im just really unclear about the holes in the bottom.

What kind of tank is it? A tank that large usually has two drains and two returns. The back of mine looks like this from the top. .............................. [0 0] [0 0]

Well that did not come out right. There is a drain and a return in my overflow on each corner in the back of the tank.

i was just wondering how the drain from the bottom worked, hate to see what happens if you mess up and the power goes out. :(

Sounds to me like there are 2 returns and 2 drains.
I would run 2 drain lines from the prefilter area (the area with the biomedia) to a sump and then plumb the return lines to the 2 holes in the tank. Whatever you choose to put in between those points you can.
Keep in mind you will probably have to run the return lines to the top of the tank. If you do not the water will drain all the way to the level of the hole for the return.
I would run the return line up to a spray bar about 1 inch below the water level.

If the return line were ran, lets say, two inches above the bottom of the tank the water would be forced back thru the pump if there were a power failure.
